About IFP-Philippines
In the Philippines, the IFP is administered by the Philippine Social Science Council (PSSC) in cooperation with regional and provincial universities and civil society organizations.
The Philippine Social Science Council is a private, not-for-profit organization of professional social science associations in the Philippines. It was founded in 1968 by leading Filipino social scientists to promote the development of social sciences and enhance the use of social science knowledge and expertise in social analysis and public policy-making. Since its inception, the Council has done this by encouraging the growth of Filipino social science associations and institutions; supporting training activities that upgrade and update social science teaching and research in the Philippines; and disseminating social science knowledge and research finding via conferences and publications.
As an IFP International Partner, the PSSC is tasked to help shape the Program globally and implement it locally. PSSC performs the main tasks of interacting with Fellows, from initial outreach to selection, through placement, ongoing support, and post-Fellowship activities.
Fellowship Benefits
Once selected, Ford Foundation International Fellows may enroll in an appropriate university program anywhere in the world, including their country of residence. IFP will cover the cost of up to three years of graduate study, including:
- tuition and other university fees;
- living allowances;
- travel allowances; and
- health insurance coverage.
The IFP provides placement assistance to Fellows not yet admitted into graduate school. The IFP works with different Placement Partners to help the Fellows-Elect with their university admission. For those going the United Kingdom, the British Council handles the applications. The International Institute of Education and the Nuffic provide assistance to Fellows-Elect going to the United States and the Netherlands, respectively.
IFP support also enables Fellows to undertake appropriate short term academic training to assist them to gain admission to graduate school and increase their prospects for academic success in their chosen programs. The Pre-Academic Training (PAT) includes training courses that improve their English language proficiency, academic computer skills, and knowledge and application of scientific research and its methodologies.
